Was very disappointed in the vet seen today - we had direct instructions from another vet regarding follow-up care. This clinic seemed more focused on downgrading other clinics care and charging more dollars to run more tests. I have used VCA in the past and was ready to get my two dogs back on track at this clinic because I had such positive experiences in the past. I also had the privilege of personally working closely with multiple vets as they completed their education. I have never experienced this level of poor customer service and compassion. I was extremely disappointed in the vet’s customer service and ability to really listen to me on what I was directed to say as a follow-up to the medical issue + was trying to establish care. I will not be back to this clinic unfortunately and strongly hope that others don’t experience this. The positive was the front desk staff was very kind but that’s not what matters most in this situation.

We have been going to Hometown Animal Hospital for over 12 years now. We have always received excellent care for all of our pets. All of the Doctors there are wonderful. Last Wednesday my dog had been having a hard time with moving around with her back leg. It had been two days and I decided to call Hometown at 430 expecting to get an appointment next day or later. Jessica answered the phone and spoke with Dr Ramirez and they told me to come over. We are always greeted when we arrive and we didn’t have to wait long for my dog to be seen. Dr Ramirez carefully examined her along with his Vet Tech and not only did they address her pain area he throughly looked at her eyes and ears and listened to her heart. He came up with a plan to get her feeling well. A couple days after her visit she is doing so much better. I am so thankful this great group.

Please do not take your pet to VCA Hometown Animal Hospital if you have older dogs, dogs that have health issues or may need same day care. While the vets are good, the way this business is run is for money and not for the welfare of your pets.

I have been a customer of theirs for almost 14 years and ever since they went corporate getting appointments the same day have been difficult. Over the past two years one of my dogs has had several medical issues, two requiring surgery. One of her conditions required same day treatment and 50% of the time even when calling before 9am I was met with, I’m so sorry we recommend you take her to urgent care or pet hospital. Several were requests for revisits from treatment the day before. I was told by one of their staff at 10am, we are a general practice not an urgent care facility.

Yesterday unfortunately we had to put our sweet precious 12 year old down. While this was devastating alone, what caused a stressful situation even more stressful is at 2pm my husband called and told the staff our dog was in distress covered with hives and the medicine they gave for this was not working and we wanted to put her down, he was told the usual “I’m sorry we are completely booked, we suggest you take her to urgent care. Otherwise we can see her tomorrow afternoon.” Needless to say we were not going to allow her to suffer for 24 hours until they could fit her in.

We will never go back to this place. The compassion this place had when we started going there is gone.

Have never left a negative review anywhere! But I was treated so condescendingly and rudely at this practice. Dr. spoke to me as if I had not owned the same type of dog for 20 years, treated me like a terrible pet parent (just bc my dog was dealing with a very common issue to the breed), and made me feel like a child being scolded, rather than one who loves her dog and was seeking help.
Not my first negative experience with this practice; I do believe in second chances. But this was the final straw.

I’ve been coming to this location for 3+ years now with my two dogs and would recommend to anyone! The whole staff has always been professional and friendly. They always answer my phone calls and have helped squeeze me in for emergencies. I’m confident in all the Doctors and Techs. Big thanks to Dr. Ramirez and Dr. Minor for taking care of my dogs at all times…even my rowdy boy who they handle like pros!

I am extremely disappointed with the service at VCA Hometown Animal Hospital. Recently, my 12-year-old dog had an issue with his foot that had been going on for a couple of days. When I called early in the morning, they had an available appointment the same day at 2:00 pm. However, instead of seeing my dog as scheduled, they insisted I take him to their emergency clinic, which felt unnecessary and like an attempt to have me spend more money. We even signed up for their monthly plan, but we will be canceling all plans and going somewhere else that more of a responsible bedside manner.

I explained the situation and emphasized his age, but I didn't feel like I was listened to or that my dog's care was prioritized. This is not the first time we've had a less-than-satisfactory experience, but we decided to give them one last chance. Unfortunately, this experience has confirmed that we will no longer be taking our pets to VCA Hometown. We trust our pets deserve better care and attentiveness.

When my aging dog—who has received years of care from VCA—needed what could have been her final appointment, I was refused even the possibility of getting her in for a same-day visit. This was deeply disappointing, especially given the circumstances.

I understand there are staffing shortages and that veterinarians are stretched thin, but the way this was handled made me feel like they didn’t care. Instead of offering any form of compassion or attempting to find a solution, I was simply diverted to an affiliated urgent care that would have been significantly more expensive, and this was during regular business hours. While I recognize that sometimes referring clients to urgent care is necessary, the way this message is delivered matters. I felt dismissed and unimportant as a long-time customer.

What truly solidified my decision to end my relationship with VCA was when I showed up at the clinic, hoping to plead for a last-minute squeeze-in while I was already driving there. Upon arrival, I was greeted with, “I can’t believe you showed up after our conversation earlier,” as if my effort to seek care for my dog was inappropriate or unwarranted. This interaction left me feeling more disrespected than I’ve ever been at a vet.

It’s been a challenging few days—my family just welcomed a baby on Friday, I was involved in a hit-and-run accident on Saturday, and by late Sunday, my dog’s health took a turn. I called first thing Monday morning, hoping for help, only to be told that they wouldn’t even try to schedule her or keep me informed if a cancellation opened up.

After this experience, I will never patronize another VCA establishment. While I’m grateful to those staff members who have provided care over the years, this experience has left me with no confidence in VCA’s commitment to its customers.

Edit: Dr. Miner did reach out to me directly to discuss the event and was very compassionate and understanding, I do appreciate that she took the time to reach out to me personally.
